Background:
The milk foam is a result of steam, air and milk that meets in perfect symphony.
A difficult task indeed.
So if either component is not running correctly, there is a number of resulting issues:
- Low temperature - No/little steam or milk pump running too fast
- No foam - Air pump related issues. Either, the speed is too slow, the pump might not be working at all or the restrictor is blocked. (Restrictor SKU 4302296)
It is important to unstained all the variables in order to quickly troubleshoot our milk system.
Resolutions:
Low or no foam (flat milk):
- Check air pump. If the pump, make sure it's spinning when a milk drink is selected.
- Check the air pump hose, it needs to be intact without any leaks.
- If the above is in working condition, check the hose that sits inside the pump.
- Finally, check the restrictor. This part ensures the airflow is consistent - but if it it blocked, you will need to clean or replace it. (SKU: 4302296)
Low temperature:
- Remove the milk and run a warm milk, while you ensure there is a steady flow of steam pressure throughout.
- Ensure the foaming head is nice and clean. Instruct the customer to clean it as often as required to prevent build-up of milk fat
- Adjust the milk pump speed, by using the "Milk Temp. Offset" feature.
Menu > Adjust > Temperature > Milk Temp Off. Standard is 0.
A greater number is higher temperature = lower pump speed. A lesser number is lower temperature = higher pump speed. Since the steam pressure is a constant, the pump speed determines the dilution of the steam in the milk, in turn the temperature of the milk. The setting uniquely also alters flow rate to match setting in the Barista program, so that it shows the right volume in the app.
Recommendation: Upgrade to latest milk foamer! It features a larger expansion chamber, ensuring longer contact between milk and stream - giving higher temperatures. Also, it has specially designed spirals that improves delivery of the milk. The new foaming kit has SKU: 4302478
Price. €40
Notes: We recommend running latest standard recipes. Look for the "New Standard" folder on the "Recipes & Setup" workspace on FileBox. Also, running our standard setup files.
